...and People Wonder Why I am for the Death Penalty

Well, it's simple.  *This* is why I am for the death penalty:

SAN FRANCISCO -- A search of San Francisco Bay continues for the bodies of two young children believed to have been tossed into the water by their mother.

Authorities have recovered what's believed to be the body of a third child. The San Francisco Examiner reported that the body of the woman's 3-year-old son was recovered about four hours after a witness reported seeing a woman drop the children off a local pier.

The search began late Wednesday afternoon when an unidentified man called 911 to report seeing the woman drop the children into the chilly water near a popular waterfront stretch.

Lashaun Harris, the 23-year-old "mother" in this case, is booked for three counts of murder.  Her excuse?  The "VOICES" told her to dump her kids off the pier.  Well, my "voices" tell me that she should receive the death penalty.  But it's possible that she will have some "mental disorder" that would prohibit that from happening.  I personally don't care.  There isn't a person out there, mental disorder or not, who can justifiably kill their own kids and get away with it in my book.

Update:  No surprise, Lashaun Harris pled "not guilty."  Of course she has a mental disorder....and of course she's going to get some testing.

The charges could bring the death penalty, but District Attorney Kamala Harris said she hasn't decided yet whether to seek such a sentence.

Hmmmm....easy decision for me, quite honestly.  And this:

She said there will be a critical look at the way social services handled the woman's case.

Of course there should be a critical look - they made the decision to return the children to this woman.  But more importantly, what consequences will there be for the family members who didn't take her seriously when she stated she was thinking of feeding the kids to the sharks?  I'm so damn tired of people taking "critical" looks and feeling some level of pity for the family who "didn't take it seriously."  DO SOMETHING.  In both instances (social services and the family members), they had information and history which led them to understand that this woman was not in her right mind (um, anyone who kills someone like this isn't in their right mind, by the way).  The family should have kept the kids safe when social services decided that Mom and kids needed to be reunited.  Call me mean or hateful if you feel you must, but they are virtually as guilty as she is by not taking her threats seriously.

I look into the face of any child (mine, but other kids as well), and I cannot fathom what these innocent, beautiful children could ever do to inspire such hateful acts, even in their worst moment.  To protect a person after they kill a kid, in particular their own, is just not something I can comprehend.  The criminal is not the victim here, whether they are mentally "ill" or not.

Right after I started blogging an area man took his toddler home from the sitters, filled the tub and killed the child. The defense? He has OCD- obsessive compulsive disorder. Amazingly people actually are defending him.

I read today how this woman's family admitted that she had threatened to hurt the children before, in my book not only she she be "put down", but the people who allowed her to have these children in her "care" (I use that word very liberally) should be held accountable also.

I hear those voices as well. The ones that say she deserves to die, that is (not the ones that tell me to kill my offspring).

... let's see if the ACLU steps in to defend HER "civil rights", ignoring the point as they usually do (in this case, obviously, the "right of life" of the children)

This is horrible! Why don't the voices ever say "Kill yourself, let the children live, commit sucide." No its always "kill the children". Just think, one kid saw the other 2 get tossed into the bay. I have no sympathy for her. Death penalty and quickly.

All - excellent points, but I have to say Al's hit home. These siblings watched their other siblings die. Imagine what the last child went through - particiularly if it was one of the oldest who could understand what "Mom" was doing. I cannot even imagine the fear they had. L, you have an excellent point, too. I have to wonder why some in society doesn't think people should take RESPONSIBILITY and be accountable for their actions (I'm speaking more for the people who are saying she's threatened to harm her kids before).

I had to listen to my morning radio show interview some "psycho"therapist say that this woman couldn't help herself any more than a person with Alzheimer's can control their actions. Wha? There is no comparison there. When was the last time you heard fo an Alzheimer's patient throwing their kids off a pier to die?

Could also be a good argument against wellfare. All of her childred were supported by Cal taxpayers. With out taxpayers support she wouldhad given some thought before having them. Not the varied last names. Hmmm

Wouldn't AWARENESS of the VOICES as separate from her own thoughts indicate at least some culpability? Could a truly "crazy" person make that distinction.

In days past the mentally ill young women were FIXED! These young women could be raped even in the hospitals by staff and other male patients. Many families allowed them to be FIXED to avoid their mentally ill daughters from having children.

Then during Ronald Reagan's term in office (California Gov.) we released the mentally ill to the streets. They would report in for their medicine at clinics and everyone just prayed that they would keep taking it.

Whose to blame......everyone who thinks the mentally ill should have children and society should babysit them. No one bothered to ask the children.....oh thats right......they were not born yet!

Okay.....erect a large pole at end of pier....connect a rope tied to this woman...for $5.00 ...you can throw her in the bay and when almost drowned, reel her back in for the next person to have a turn. Sorry I could not think of any cruel and unusual punishment.

Yeah one straight line.If you commit this crime you pay this penalty. Young or old rich or poor the same penalty for all. The ACLU is already to defend that old guy in Florida who ran the guy down and was driving around with the body half through his window ! The driver says he forgoy it was in his windshield. The driver was 93 but I know if I did it it would be death penalty or life.
