Evil on Earth

This story comes by way of The Rott, yet another story of pure evil involving yet another sick bastard who thinks it is okay to abuse, then murder a child (Misha put together some excellent thoughts on the whole thing). My hubby knows this stuff gets me wound tight, but in this case I was actually going to avoid posting on it all together as there isn't much else that can be said but "fry the bastard." But as I stewed on it, I feel that isn't entirely true. Read on, especially if you are polishing your hand gun and live in Ohio:

WAYNESBURG - A Canton man has been charged with the rape and murder of a 7-month-old infant he was baby-sitting.

Police said Henry A. Sunderman, 32, of 3117 Tuscarawas St. W, Apt. A-3, in Canton, raped and killed his niece, Zoey Sunderman, on Friday. Sunderman was baby-sitting the girl, her two sisters and a brother.

Zoey was the youngest.

This bastard *raped* a 7-month-old baby...his NIECE. While 3 other children were present!!!

She was pronounced dead at Akron Children’s Hospital at 2:02 p.m. Friday. The Summit County medical examiner was doing an autopsy Saturday; it said the case was under investigation and did not release a cause of death. But Stark County Jail records said Sunderman admitted he had penetrated the baby’s anus with his finger, “causing severe tearing and trauma, resulting in the death of the victim.”

Amazingly enough, it was the rat bastard of a child molester who decided to call an ambulance, but it was too late. This little one was barely crawling, maybe standing and now she's gone.

I go back to my rants of posts past. Yeah, "Uncle" Henry admitted to doing this awful thing to this baby. But why would the mother of these children think it is okay to leave her darling children to babysit him when he has a criminal record including crimes of drunk driving, menacing, criminal damaging and endangering, domestic violence and solicitation charges (also five convictions for disorderly conduct by intoxication)? Just his record on intoxication would be enough for me to stay home or find another sitter. But throw in endangering and domestic violence and you've got your regular boogey man.

Don't misunderstand, I feel terrible that the mother lost her daughter and I cannot possibly fathom what she is going through because of her loss. But I can't help but think she knew this man was not the best caregiver for her children given his rap sheet. But she's apparently blinded to it as it seems to run in the family:

Court records show their father, Henry Sunderman’s brother, David, was sent to Lorain Correctional Institution on Feb. 27 for failing to comply with police and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a combination.

I can't help but wonder whether it's time for someone to get the rest of the kids out of that seemingly troubled situation and into a place that is safer.

For Uncle Henry? It's simple. Just before a full-on gunshot wound to the head, a nice, dull rusty knife to the man parts. This bastard doesn't deserve one more breath.

Matthew Koso Sentenced

Matthew Koso was sentenced to 18-30 months for the decision he made to start "dating" a girl who was 12 years old (he was 18). He got her pregnant when she was 14 and he was 20 and her parents gave consent to marry her in Kansas at the age of 15.

In Nebraska it is a crime for an adult to have sex with a child, which is what he did. It is good to see that there was a sentence that sent the message to Koso that he is not above the law. I'm told there are "so many sides" to the story and I'm perhaps "quick to judge." The law speaks for itself, said "sides" were heard and the story was told. Bottom line, the message was clear. There's a law, Koso broke it and there are consequences. Fair is fair.

Matthew Koso Redux Part II

Back in September, I posted my thoughts on the whole Matthew Koso mess.  My mind hasn't changed one bit.  This guy started dating a 12 year old girl when he was 20 and impregnated her when she was 13.  After originally filing a restraining order, Crystal's mother decided to "bless" the wedding because of the baby and approved them to marry in Kansas, where it is legal to wed at any age (although it isn't recognized as a marriage here in Nebraska).

Koso went to court today and plead guilty with the hopes of getting probation:

OMAHA, Neb. -- A Falls City man faces up to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to sexual assault charges filed after he impregnated and then married a 14-year-old girl. His attorney said he copped the plea hoping for probation.

[snip]

The case generated national media attention when Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning filed first-degree sexual assault charges against Koso in July.

Attorney General Bruning is spot on in his feelings that this case is a bit more serious than probation, but leaves that decision in the hands of the judge.

"Do I believe that Matthew Koso deserves 50 years? Of course not," Bruning said. "I am appreciative that he has taken responsibility for his actions and has married this girl."

But Bruning said Koso still committed a serious crime.

"The baby makes this a clear-cut case," Bruning said.

During the hearing, the judge suggested a mental evaluation be done before sentencing.  There's no way I would believe that this guy didn't know what he was doing...as Bruning notes, he knows right from wrong.

"He was a member of the U.S. Marines. He has a job that drives to work every day. Is he going to cure cancer? No. But he's not a low-functioning person that can't survive on his own," Bruning said.

Koso comes back for sentencing in two months.  My thought is that he needs to face the charge and the punishment that is befitting of anyone in this circumstance.  People may think I'm harsh, but it should involve prison time of some kind.  Yes, he has a baby at home, but did he truly think about the mistakes he made being involved with a child before he created a child himself?  No.  That is the crime that has been committed and that is what he is charged with and what he plead guilty to.  There is, and should be, consequences for inappropriate actions.

My only hope in all of this is that little baby Samara can pull through this bad circumstance relatively unscathed.  Once the pregnancy was discovered, the child could have been put up for adoption to be raised in a secure, safe and loving home.  This would have kept Crystal away from Koso and would have allowed her to be what she is - a young, teen-aged girl.  But, surrounded by people who seem to be challenged with understanding right from wrong, it will definitely be a mountain to climb for both Crystal and little Samara.

Why Should I Feel Sorry for a Child Rapist & Murderer?

Carlie Brucia was an 11-year-old girl full of life and a lot ahead of her.  She was charming, bubbly and an A-student.  Was...until her life was ripped from her, slain by a man who first sexually abused her and, in order to protect himself, killed her.  This vile excuse for a human being is Joseph Smith and he changed not only Carlie's life, but everyone who knew her.

"I lost the love of my life," Susan Schorpen, the 11-year-old girl's mother, said Monday while fighting back tears and taking deep breaths from the witness stand. "I cry for her at all hours of the day. I cry for her at night. I'm broken. I will never heal."

Carlie's mom wants to see Smith die.  She said outside the courthouse "I'd like him dead today."  Can you blame her?

Smith had his first day of trial to determine his sentencing and his family and friends are hoping for life in prison versus the death penalty.

His aunt, a cousin and a former girlfriend described him as a talented handyman and mechanic who was ready to help anybody with their cars or home improvement projects.

Defense attorneys showed jurors pictures of Smith as a child, with his daughters and other relatives. They also played a DVD of Smith, 39, making a toast at his cousin's wedding.

"He would do anything I asked him to do," said Jean Dwyer, his aunt. "He was like a second son."

Now, don't get me wrong.  It is entirely predictable that family and friends of a person being sentenced for murder would want to rush to their defense - especially if they knew him as a completely different person.  But honestly, that doesn't mean that I have to feel sorry for the bastard.  He murdered an innocent 11-year-old girl.  He has DAUGHTERS OF HIS OWN.  I don't care that he had a drug addiction, I don't care about any of the problems he had.  His defense attorney apparently thinks that these issues should count for something (emphasis mine):

But defense attorney Carolyn DaSilva asked jurors to recommend sparing Smith's life. She noted that he had battled back pain, depression and drug addiction for the past dozen years, and said relatives, friends and a drug-addiction expert would testify how "a man with good qualities could have fallen so far."

"You will hear from witnesses who can tell you about Joe's good qualities ... even though he was unable to control his drug addiction," DaSilva said. "You will hear from people who care about Joseph Smith, and that his life has value."

So back pain is an excuse to avoid the death penalty when someone murders an 11-year-old girl after sexually molesting her?  Did he choose to hunt her down and molest her because he was depressed?  Did the drugs make him do it?  C'mon - that's offensive to most back pain victims, individuals with depression and even most drug addicts.  It shouldn't matter that these things exist.  People live with these issues every day and never hurt anyone like this.  He is the ADULT and he made choices that caused him to be addicted to drugs.  There are treatments for depression and for back pain.  Why the hell would anyone accept these excuses when it comes down to determining his sentencing?  What matters is that he made a very swift, heartless decision to kill a little girl after he violated her physically.  That was his crime.  I don't feel sorry for the guy in the least - I am unable to.  I *DO* feel sorry for Carlie's family.  Parents should never have to bury their children - and in particular children who die brutally because of another.  I am angry as hell that an 11-year-old girl had to suffer the way she did - and had to know she was going to die - I cannot even fathom how afraid she was.

Why should he live, when he made the choice to not allow her to do so?

The Process of Releasing CSO into society

I came across this article about the process of releasing convicted sex offenders into society. There is a personal story to this at the beginning, but what caught my eye was the actual process. I decided to write a post about this. It is specific to the state of Wisconsin, but many states do the same thing.

The release and the public notification After serving a debt to society, along with a successful completion of counseling, convicted sex offenders are released from prison or a mental health institution. But before release, the public is notified, thanks to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program. According to the Department of Corrections, the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification law was passed in 1997, allowing the public to collect and distribute information about a certain sex offender coming to the area. But public notification has been a national law for several years. In 1994, the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act was enacted, requiring all states to establish stringent registration programs for sex offenders by Sept. 1997, including the identification and lifetime registration of sex offenders. Megan’s law, the first amendment to the Act, was passed in 1996, requiring all states to develop notification allowing public access to information about sex offenders in the community.

The federal government requires each state to have in place procedures for notification. Some states are better at this than others though.

David Hatch, a parole supervisor for the Department of Corrections (DOC), said the DOC will be required to post the addresses of convicted sex offenders on its web site beginning in December. “That information will be used to better track an individual and indicate where they’re located,” Hatch said. Wisconsin law does not require notifications for all offenders released from prison or a mental health facility. It only highlights certain offenders who may pose a significant risk to the community. A year prior to the offender’s scheduled release date, the criminal history is screened by staff in the law enforcement area to see if it meets the statutory requirement of a Special Bulletin Notification. Some of the cases undergo a special purpose evaluation to determine if they qualify for civil commitment under chapter 980, which classifies people as being too mentally unstable to be in society. Approximately two months prior to the release date and following the special purpose evaluation, the same staff will receive a final notification from the program, including the DOC’s intentions to distribute a special bulletin notification. The DOC sends a recommendation of what level of notification the offender should be. There are three levels of community notification. Levels of community notification process •Level I, is strictly limited to law enforcement. •Level II is targeted notification. This may include schools, neighbors, community groups, day care centers, parks, recreation areas and libraries. •Level III is expanded notification to the general public. A variety of methods are used to inform the public, including face-to-face notification, media releases and community meetings. Hatch said the Department of Corrections determines the levels based on the original offense, institutional treatment and institutional conduct. But law enforcement has the final say about level notification.

It's facinating to learn how it all works, and I didn't know the Dept. Of Corrections starts this process. This is common in all states.

Pre-parole plan After the DOC discusses a pre-parole plan about the offender’s residency, employment and support following prison, a residency is selected for the offender. The DOC investigates the proximity of schools, churches and other public places he or she may be deemed as a threat. “But there are some problems finding a place,” Hatch said. For example, the DOC finds an apartment for the offender. But in the complex there’s a mother and three children — which is not an appropriate place. “There’s no perfect place wherever you put a high risk sex offender,” he said. But once housing is found, the DOC is responsible for preparing and distributing the special bulletin notification for the community.

This is where many communities are having a hard time of it...no one wants a CSO to live in their neighborhood. Cities and towns have rules about how far CSO must live within schools, day care centers, shopping malls...and of course CSO are upset because they are limited. So they should be. The next section of this article describes what is done to track CSO...this is very different in each state. Don't forget to check out this site, which will show you on a map, where RCSO (registered convicted sex offenders) live in your area. Be prepared; educate your children, be viligant.

I'll be homeless because I don't make that much money

Some people have a lot of nerve. Those who have harmed children should have no rights period. Convicted sex offenders especially should not have access to those who they very likely would harm again.
DELAWARE, Ohio -- The U.S. District Court Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by registered sex offenders who say the Ohio law banning sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school is unconstitutional. David Slack, one of the six registered sex offenders who filed the suit, said he cannot afford to move away from his home near Woodward Elementary School in Delaware, Ohio. "I'll be homeless because I don't make that much money," Slack said.
I don't want to hear his sorry ass stories. He's full of BS and he knows it. He wants to live near the school so he can check out the prey. It's what all sex offenders want: To have their eye candy right in front of them. If this is an issue of being homeless, then get another job asshole. Do whatever it takes to move away from the kids. The state should make him get another job! I don't condone states getting involved like that, but in these cases it wouldn't be a bad thing. Kind of like forced labor.
On Monday, the U.S. District Court dismissed his case. The court did not uphold the constitutionality of the law, but just said Slack and the other registered sex offenders did not have the legal standing to file suit. "There'd been no action taken to remove them from the place they'd been living in, or they brought it even though they weren't living within 1,000 feet of a school," Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro said. Nevertheless, Petro said he sees the case's dismissal as a victory for the state and all of its residents, NBC 4's Duarte Geraldino reported. Petro said he believes many sex offenders are likely to offend again.
1000 feet isn't that far, 1/5th of a mile. I live near two schools and the neighborhood is always busy with kids walking to and from school...I wouldn't feel content knowing a pervert lived ANYWHERE near the area. A good 6 miles is what I MIGHT feel alright with. 1000 feet? The perverts can still see the kids...and lurk and watch them as they walk by.
"I am truly sorry about what happened, but it was just one of those things. I can't explain why it happened," Slack said.
Yep...and no one wants to hear your half ass apology. It's too late for that. And it's very lame, when used in context to this lawsuit.
Supporters praised the judge's decision and said it allows the state to enforce a law that is needed to keep children safe. "This law is in place to protect children from potentially dangerous predators," Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro said in a statement. "This is a reasonable and necessary statute." The law allows city and county prosecutors across the state to seek eviction orders against hundreds - and possibly thousands - of convicted sex offenders living too close to schools. The law expands a statute that had allowed neighbors, landlords or school officials to seek evictions.
Now this is what I want to read...laws making it legal to boot these perverts right out of the area. Who wants a salivating twisted sex freak who seeks children, living in their neighborhoods, near the schools or places where kids hang out? I know this leaves little option as to where the freaks can go...and that's the point. They should be sent out to a field in the niddle of no where...
But opponents say the re-offense rate is no different for sex offenders than for other criminals and that imposing the 1,000-foot rule would be impractical and unconstitutional. In some cases, they say, the rule would be so restrictive it could result in homelessness.
That is a lie. Sex offenders often repeat their crimes, and to a higher degree of harm each time. There is a BIG difference between a person who robs a bank or sells drugs, compared to this type of criminal. I cannot believe these advocates are even trying to compare. Those who care about kids need to keep pushing these issues and demanding local governments to force the perverts into seclusion. I hate to promote that, but when it comes to welfare and safety of children, it may have to come to this.

Halloween Could Bring Out Real Ghouls - Watch Your Kids!

I remember when I was a kid, we had to start looking at the candy we got after Trick-or-Treating, just to ensure there were no razor blades in apples or pins in candy bars after some idiots decided it would be entertaining to do such stupid things to kids.

Now that I have my own children, worrying about pedophiles and child molesters is on the list of "safety tips" for Halloween.  I truly believe that as a parent, I am the number one protector of my children - no one can do it better.  Either my husband or I will go out with the kids as they trick-or-treat, ensuring they are safe from traffic, other kids out to cause trouble, or adults who would enjoy inviting kids in for an inappropriate visit.

There are many communities who are focused on how to protect kids from sexual predators who may be "tempted" by children parading up to their homes - and I applaud their efforts!  There are various approaches to this, ranging from increased in-home visitations to the homes of sex offenders on Halloween night to proposed laws banning sex offenders from participating in Halloween altogether.  Here's a glimpse:

About 45 registered Level 2 and 3 sex offenders who live in Westchester County, just north of New York City, will receive special invitations to attend an educational program between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Oct. 31, under an initiative spearheaded by Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano. Those who don't attend will receive a personal visit from probation officers and police. Level 1 sex offenders and those on probation who have committed crimes of a sexual nature will also receive a home visit, according to a statement released by Spano's office.

"We've done home visits on Halloween nights in the past, but this is the first year that we've asked sex offenders on probation to come in to our offices," said Victoria Hochman, assistant communications director for the county executive.

Hochman said kids present the same temptation to sex offenders that alcohol presents to alcoholics. Rather than have sex offenders at home and in the position to be tempted by parades of children coming to their doors, Hochman said, the county will offer probationers something constructive and hopefully put parents at ease.

The Halloween initiative does not come in response to a spike in molestations or abductions on the holiday, however. "We have never had an incident on Halloween night," Hochman said. But highly publicized cases of brutal child abductions in recent years have heightened citizen activism and put pressure on local authorities to monitor sex offenders more closely. Westchester County was also the first in the state to use active Global Positioning System bracelets on sex offenders under the supervision of its probation department.

"Given the high recidivism rates with this type of crime, people are very concerned. This could provide some relief for people," Hochman said.

I like this idea, and in my mind it seems as though this would be the best approach.  Removing any high risk offender from the situation all together seems to make the most sense with follow-up for those who don't attend the activity.

Here are what a few more communities are doing:

  • New Jersey's state parole board is putting a curfew on some 2,200 sex offenders it supervises.  Sex offenders need to be indoors by 7pm on Halloween and can't answer their doors.  They can't attend parties where children are present as well and can't take children - including their own - out to trick-or-treat.

  • In Parker County, TX (west of Forth Worth), 42 registered sex offenders on probation will have to spend the evening at county offices.  They state, again, that this is proactive, in order to prevent any issues as well as "protect" the sex offenders from any false accusations.  Eh, the latter isn't as important to me, but it may temper the heat the ACLU may attempt to throw their way.

  • Lastly, a Michigan state lawmaker wants to ban sex offenders from Halloween. State representative Fran Amos of Waterford introduced a bill that would prohibit convicted sex offenders from handing out candy and could be passed in time for Halloween.  This most recent action has ruffled the feathers of the ever criminal protective ACLU, who states this is unconstitutional.  I say let's invite said sex offenders over to the house of the ACLU's Shelli Weisberg on Halloween - she can entertain them.  Oh, and let's hope she doesn't have young children.

Again, the best thing we can do is be good parents - get out with your kids to ensure their safety.  And if you're like us, maybe you can "trick-or-beer" at the same time!

Do You Want a Sex Offender's Opinion?

He apparently thinks you do:

ELKHART, Iowa -- A convicted sex offender who served time behind bars says he wants to be heard -- and he wants Iowa lawmakers to listen.

Dave Spencer, 52, of Elkhart, plans to be at the Statehouse this week to tell lawmakers about the effects of laws passed to punish sex offenders and restrict where they can live.

Let's see:  The effects of laws passed to punish sex offenders and restrict where they can live protects people, in particular children, from proven sex offenders.  Said laws allow kids to be kids (as much as they can be these days), by making parks, schools, and libraries much safer places.  Oh, wait....Mr. Sex Offender wasn't talking about the POSITIVE effects, was he?

Spencer said he isn't asking that sex offenders go unpunished, only that the penalty be just.

He said he'll ask lawmakers to revisit this year's laws that place harsher penalties on sex offenders and a 2002 law that bans child molesters from living within 2,000 feet of schools and day-care centers.

Oh, yes.  Let's revisit those laws.  Mr. Spencer, can you provide an iron-clad guarantee to me that any sex offender, particularly those of the pedophile type, will never again, absolutely NEVER commit another sex crime once s/he is released from prison?  No?  Didn't think so.  Until then, I would recommend that the State of Iowa revisits those laws as you are asking....but makes them harsher.

Scum-Sucking Pedophile

Take a close look at Richard Merritt, Jr., scum-sucking asswad:

This man was arrested in Lincoln, Nebraska after a period of weeks in which he repeatedly attempted to entice young children into his car by using cash.  There were at least 10 different reports on his efforts.  Thank God he was arrested, because when police caught up with him, he had a 10-year-old boy in his car.  Imagine the relief the parents must feel.

While police followed leads, the big break came when Lincoln police Chief Tom Casady overheard a captain talking about the case.

"I recognized that was the same M.O. Richard Merritt had been doing previously," Casady said.

The disgusting part of this is that Merritt served a sentence in 2003 for a series of exposure incidents - egregious enough that the police chief remembered the case.  You know how much time this miscreant served?  A whopping 90 days.  And here we are, just 2 years later, arresting the bastard for trying to get kids in his car to fulfill his sick fantasies.

Parents were worried this guy would get off with yet another slap on the wrist as enticement is a misdemeanor in Nebraska (WTF???).  Luckily, they were able to charge him with attempted sexual assault of a child, which is a felony (his bond was set at $500,000).  Would you want this sick bastard parked out front of your child's school?

In court on Wednesday, prosecutors said Merritt told investigators he fantasized about getting a child in his car and acting out his sexual fantasies, which included hearing the victim scream.

Given the number of ridiculously light sentences and the minimal amount of time served in some of these types of cases, I admit I'm a bit cynical about how this will turn out.

Kim Jungek said her son was walking with two other kids after school on Sept. 1 down an alley when a man approached and offered cash to get them in his car. She said she's upset now that she didn't call police.

"A number of other parents didn't call police, and maybe if we would've put those pieces together, maybe he wouldn't have had so many opportunities," Jungek said.

She said she's glad Merritt faces a felony charge.

"I don't want him out in my neighborhood or any other neighborhood. Misdemeanors would not keep him behind bars," she said.

Let's just cross our fingers and hope that a felony conviction WILL, Ms. Jungek.

The Punishment Does NOT Fit the Crime

Read this carefully, as there is a quiz at the end:

Hill, 56, pleaded guilty to sexually touching native kids as young as three.

His crimes began in the 1970s.

Three of the victims - two nieces and a nephew - are now in their 20s and 30s. The other three - two boys and a girl - are ages six, eight and 11.

Hill is a non-native who has been married for 32 years to a Westbank band member and has lived on the reserve for 15 years.

All the victims were native children, who were either related to Hill or were his neighbours. None of the victims can be identified.

Court heard descriptions from the three adult victims from prosecutor Martin Nadon.

The man who is now 35 was assaulted by Hill from the time he was four or five until he was 14. The assaults included anal and oral sex.

At one point, Hill used a battery charger to make sparks, warning the boy that he would administer electric shocks if the boy ever talked to anyone about the assaults..

The victim estimated he was assaulted by Hill 200 times.

A niece, now 24, said Hill had sex with her between the ages of five and 11. "She just remembered that it (intercourse) hurt a lot," said Nadon.

"She was crying because it hurt so much, but she thought it was OK because Hill was her uncle. After one episode, she was limping because of the pain, but told others she had fallen and hurt her leg."

She said Hill told her that if she ever told, her father wouldn't love her anymore and her family would be ashamed.

Quiz:  Guess what the sentence was for this repeat offender, low life scum pedophile.

Matthew Koso Redux

I dunno, perhaps I have a bit of OCD, but I can't help but get thoroughly ticked off when I read stuff about Matthew Koso.  I posted on his, er, situation a number of times.

Good Morning America had Matthew and his 14 YEAR OLD "WIFE" on the morning of 9/13/05, along with their baby Samara (isn't that the name of the freaky scary girl from the well in The Ring?).  You'll have to read the summary, but I found some of the quotes and information just, well, awful.

Matthew first met Crystal through her half-brother when she was 8, and they began dating in the fall of 2003 when he was 20 and she was 12.

Oh my God...think about this for a moment.  The difference between 12 and 20 sounds bad enough, but 16 and 8?  He would have been thrown in some juvenile detention had they suspected he did anything to her then.

Crystal's mother, Cecilia Guyer, filed a restraining order against Matthew Koso on Sept. 17, 2004.

"He needs to hang around girls and boys his own age group," Guyer wrote in the complaint. "He needs to seek counseling. He has a history of the same, similar with other young girls, and he needs to be stopped here and now."

They knew the pregnancy was wrong, because they hid it.  Then Crystal's mother found out when she saw the girl's stretchmarks.  Remember, he impregnated her when she was 13 years old and he was 21.  That's statutory rape in Nebraska, my friends.

"At that time, our options were limited," Matthew's mother, Peggy Koso, said today on "Good Morning America." "It was either abortion, which was well past due; adoption, which was out of the question; and then it was to marry her, which we thought was the right thing to do."

WTF?!?!?!  Let me say that again...WTF????  "adoption, which was out of the question."  HUH?  Let the child be raised by ADULTS, who have the financial means, the security, and above all the maturity to be responsible parents.  Adoption is NEVER out of the question, especially in a case such as this.  A 13-year-old is selfish, that's what 13-year-olds do.  Heck, 21-22 year-olds can tend to be selfish.  My gut feeling is perhaps the grandmother didn't want to give up her grandchild, so to speak.  So for HER, perhaps adoption was out of the question.  If so, how selfish is that?  What a troubling situation her son, his child wife and the grandchild are in now.

What people don't realize, too, is that Matt is not emotionally 22. He's not mature like other young men his age are, so he is really at the same level of maturity as Crystal even though there are those years between them."

Point one, his age is such that he is an adult, and he committed a crime (little Samara being evidence of that).  Point two, who cares...and do you really think, as "mature" as she thinks her daughter is, that her daughter would want to stay with a man who is "not mature" when she grows up?  This ain't Barbie and Ken here.  the drama doesn't go away when Barbie is thrown in her box and shoved under the bed...this is REAL LIFE and two children are in the middle of it.

Here is an amazingly mature comment from 14-year-old-Crystal:

"Here in Falls City you have two choices: go get drunk or high and die in a car accident or of an overdose, or go get pregnant," she said. "So which is the wrong choice?"

Ding, ding, ding.  All of them are wrong, Crystal.  I grew up in a small town here in Nebraska, not too far from Falls City.  There's plenty to do, if you aren't seeking trouble.

...and the most brilliant comment of all:

She added that if Samara starts dating a 20-year-old when she is 12, she will "send her to her room."

I can't help ranting about it.  As a parent, I would not allow this to happen with my daughter.  What lessons do we teach kids when we file a restraining order because we know that an adult and a child should not be having sex and then turn around and "bless" a marriage because the sex resulted in a pregnancy?  Isn't our obligation as parents to teach our children right from wrong?  As much as I would want to be with my grandchild, it's plain common sense to know that adoption would have solved so much of this.

...and this cycle will continue.  A child should not be raising a child.  And a man should not be allowed to commit these crimes, whether there is a pregnancy or not.

We track library books better than we do sexual predators

The House did something decent today. Not that they never do any good of course, but with all the recent stuff about relief/pork funds for victims of the hurricane, it was nice to read that other things are still important.
Child sex offenders would be subject to stringent monitoring requirements and face new mandatory penalties under a House-passed bill that was expanded to include protections for gays and lesbians under federal hate crime law. The House voted 371-52 Wednesday in favor of the Children's Safety Act (search), which, among its many provisions, creates a national Web site for child sex offenders and stipulates that sex felons face up to 20 years in prison for failing to comply with registration requirements. --SNIP-- The sex offender bill, which also requires felony offenders to register for life and authorizes the death penalty for sex crimes resulting in the killing of a child, responds to what House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., said was a "national crisis" in child sex offenses. He said that of some 550,000 convicted sex offenders in the nation, the whereabouts of 100,000 are unknown. Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., said, "We track library books better than we do sexual predators." Sensenbrenner said the legislation would get favorable treatment in the Senate and he expected it to be signed into law by the end of the year. The White House, in a statement, expressed support, saying that even though sex crimes against children have declined significantly in recent years, more needs to be done. It noted that the legislation codified the online National Sex Offender Public Registry that the Justice Department launched earlier this year. The legislation brings together parts of numerous proposals to protect children from sex offenders. Sections of the bill are named after victims in cases that gained national prominence, including North Dakota college student Dru Sjodin and 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford of Florida.
The cases we hear about in the news are bad-but they represent what happens all the time. Even though the rate of crimes has declined, the actual depth of each crime has gotten worse, and often includes mudering the child. Something has to be done. I don't give two cents concern for those guilty of these crimes either, even those who have served "their time". I support the death penalty in all cases involving children. Plain and simple.

Private Citizens Keeping Tabs On Sex Offenders

I think we will see more and more of these types of sites...set up to show people where sex offenders live and meander and plot and plan. It's a good thing and the more resources people have, the better they will be able to protect their children. I have to wonder how long it will take groups like the ACLU to start complaining about this. This site is managed by a citizen who is concerned for children, it's not a government supported or sponsored thing.
A new Web site allows people to search for sex offenders in their area simply by typing in an address. The site www.familywatchdog.us shows maps of where registered sex offenders live in relation to other homes, businesses and schools. By the end of September, the site will offer searches in 42 states. Founder Steve Roddel of Westfield began developing the site in April. The idea began after he learned two sex offenders lived near his home and three children. He had not found the information on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender registry because a street name was misspelled in the directory.
Too many of the online sex offender "registries" are just plain difficult to use. One has to click through five or six pages before they get to the actual page where you type in a zip code, in my state's site for example. Make it simple and user friendly.
"We wanted to build a system that did not rely on street addresses and spellings," said Roddel, who has worked in information technology for 25 years. The Vigo County Task Force on Sexual Predators is delighted with the Web site, which is easy to use. The task force was formed in June by various law enforcement agencies to search for sex offenders who have not registered after being released from a correctional facility, or have moved without registering. The Web site serves as "another tool to allow us to continue to monitor sex offenders to make sure they are in compliance," said Sarah K. Mullican, first deputy prosecuting attorney with the Vigo County prosecutor's office. "The site is so much easier to surf through than the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute or the [Indiana] Sheriff's Association," said Vigo County Sheriff Jon Marvel. "I will do all I can in order to support them." Indiana law requires the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to keep a list of all offenders convicted of a sex or violent crime. The Family Watchdog Web site uses sex-offender information from sheriff's associations, the FBI and public data sources, Roddel said. The Web site will not have information from eight states that do not supply addresses of sex offenders or do not have complete information, Roddel said. The states nearest Indiana who will not be represented are Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, he said. The Web site, which is updated daily, does not charge a fee to perform searches or look at street and aerial maps. Users can pay a fee to receive automatic notification for up to three addresses. The service only tracks registered sex offenders, which means if a sex offender has not notified their local sheriff's department that they have moved, the correct address will not be listed. "We encourage everyone to use it," Roddel said. "We want to protect everyone's kids."
It's really a good site that is easy to use...These folks should put more efffort into promoting it.

Sexual Predators Should Be Removed from Society

Anyone that hangs around here for more than a few seconds knows my position on child molesters and pedophiles - they should be removed from society because they are repeat offenders.  I came across a great opinion piece over at Fox News written by Carole Moore, a former police officer who is a crime reporter.  She sums up my own opinions eloquently in one article.  I encourage you to read the entire article over at Fox News, but I wanted to point out an excerpt that I really liked:

But in most cases, it doesn't last. Until they finally kill a child — and amazingly, sometimes not even then — most child rapists will one day be back out, free to steal a child's innocence or even his or her life. It's time to tip the scales in favor of the kids.

I Can't Say I'm Surprised...

Back in July, I brought you the story of 22-year-old Matthew Koso, who married a 13-year-old girl he got pregnant.  The girl's mother approved and consented the marriage, which took place across the state line in Kansas, where it is legal for kids under the age of 18 to get married, as long as there is parental consent.  However, it is illegal in Nebraska, and charges of first degree sexual assult were filed against Koso by Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning.

The Omaha World Herald brings us an update to this twisted saga - the title stands alone:  "Child Bride's Love Had Eye for the Girls."  Sickening, isn't it?

FALLS CITY, Neb. - Matthew Koso, the 22-year-old local man who married his pregnant 14-year-old girlfriend in May, was involved with at least three other underage girls before her.

Relatives of two girls told The World-Herald of the relationships.

In one case, Koso's relationship with an 11-year-old girl came to an abrupt halt when her father discovered the two had been going out. Koso was 19 at the time.

"I nipped it in the bud," the father said.

Another girl's uncle said he intervened when he saw his niece, then 12 or 13, riding in Koso's van. He told Koso to stay away from the girl.

In the third case, Andrew Timothy, a cousin of the girl whom Koso married, said he once saw the father of a preteen girl pull Koso out of the city pool, punch him and warn him to stay away from his daughter.

A half-dozen other people who know Koso or his bride, including some of her relatives, said Koso's interest in young teens and preteens was widely known.

"He's been dating little girls for a long time," said Patty Smith, an aunt of the girl Koso married.

The girl's mother cited his past behavior when she sought a protection order to keep him away from her daughter.

"He has a history of the same, similar with other young girls. And he needs to be stopped here and now," the mother wrote in her affidavit.

Of course Koso didn't mention any of this to his attorney.  Koso's mother said that he didn't go on dates with anyone, especially young girls.  C'mon, Mom.  I think you are in denial - he impregnated a 13 year old!  Okay, maybe she's right...does statuatory rape count as a date?

I have to share this sad tale - of course none of this is Matthew's fault - he had ADHD:

Peggy Koso described Matthew, her youngest, as a child who struggled a bit in school. He had been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and wasn't strong at academics or sports. He had few friends, and those he did have were a couple of years younger.

"He never got along well with kids his age," Peggy Koso said.

Matthew Koso also had a few brushes with the law and, after graduating from high school, a brief stint in the Marine Corps.

He attended Falls City Public High School, graduating with his class in May 2001. His wife will be a freshman at the school this fall.

That's just revolting...and the article states this as if it was some kind of wedding annoucement "His wife will be a fresman at the school this fall..."  How quaint.  How romantic...how sick.  He's a pedophile!!

Throughout his life, it seems as though Matthew has had run-ins with the law, has cut himself to get attention and had problems with school because, his attorney says, of "Koso's limited mental capability."  And he's procreating now?  Greeeeaaaat.  The last famous words of Koso's attorney:

"It's not like we have some rampant criminal-type character out here," Yoesel said.

Um, I would beg to differ...

Is NAMbLA Paying a Child Killer?

If you are not familiar with this case, it is because it seems to have dropped far off the front page.  Charles Jaynes is a member of NAMbLA, a group that approves and endorses sexual relationships between adult males and young boys.  Charles Jaynes, along with Salvatore Sicari, brutally murdered and molested 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley, before tossing his body into a river.  It seems as though it is possible that NAMbLA has been helping Charles Jaynes out financially, and the reluctance to release Jaynes' prison records may send the civil case to a higher court.

After a federal judge quashed his motion to release the records in April, Lawrence Frisoli, the attorney for Barbara and Robert Curley, Jeffrey Curley's parents, requested information about Charles Jaynes' incarceration from Gov. Mitt Romney and the Department of Corrections last week.

The Curleys, who filed a $200 million lawsuit against the North American Man/Boy Love Association in 2000, allege that Jaynes is receiving money from NAMBLA while in prison and is actively recruiting inmates for the organization. They are seeking information regarding Jaynes' mail and phone activity, canteen account and employment.

Frisoli said if the request is denied, he expects further litigation to ensue, possibly to the Supreme Judicial Court. "However, we gave the Massachusetts chief executive officer [the choice]," he said.

Diane Wiffin, spokeswoman for the DOC, said lawyers were still reviewing the request.

NAMbLA is also being represented by the ACLU, who apparently is on board with NAMbLA's goal to "educate the general public on the benevolent nature of man/boy love."  I guess both of these groups tend to forget that such "love" inspired the death of a 10-year-old boy.

In 1999, Barbara Curley was given access to Jaynes' criminal records that pertain to Jeffrey's murder, on the basis that she is a victim. But in his April opinion, the judge stated it isn't clear whether Jaynes' prison records pertain to the crime.

I cannot believe the short-sightedness of this particular judge.  It is reported that Jaynes carries around little Jeffrey's autopsy report, among other things.  Of *course* his prison records pertain to the crime, and the continued crime being perpetrated if Jaynes is on NAMbLA's dole.

One affidavit, signed by an inmate at MCI-Concord, alleges that NAMBLA sends Jaynes' mother money on his behalf, which she deposits into his prison canteen account; that Jaynes passes around Curley's autopsy report to inmates; keeps a journal of rape and sexual assaults; engages in sexual acts with other prisoners; and "use[d] to participate in a fatherhood group so he could listen to fathers talk about their children."

I am all for the right to privacy, for citizens who are not murderers living on my taxes.  Jaynes is convicted of murder - I'm certain there is a hesitancy to release his records because 1) he has a "right" to privacy and 2) because the reports are probably accurate - he probably *is* getting paid by NAMbLA and they've enlisted the help of the ACLU to avoid being found out.  After all, if NAMbLA is not funding his canteen account, the release of his records would clear the record for them, right?  So if they aren't funding his account, why the hesitancy to release the records?

Duncan Tied To Another Murder

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A convicted sex offender suspected of murdering three people in Idaho and abducting two children, one of whom was later found dead, is under investigation in the 1997 kidnapping and killing of a 10-year-old Beaumont, Calif., boy, the Riverside County sheriff said Wednesday.

As furious as I am, I can't say I'm surprised that this evil, heartless heathen, Joseph Edward Duncan III, would be connected to another child murder.  He is linked by a single fingerprint to the scene of the killing of 10-year-old Anthony Martinez.

For the sake of little Anthony's family - I hope that they are able to find some relief in knowing their child's killer has been identified and that he is not wandering the streets.

I personally do *not* find any comfort in the fact that this man was a repeat offender, who "served his time" only to come out of prison and not only molest children, but kill them as well.  Laws need to be tougher, and these sick, child-molesting murdering slimeballs should not be out on parole, protected by laws that don't take a victim's welfare into account.  It has been proven time and time again that these types of criminals are NOT rehabilitated, and they tend to come out and commit crimes of an even more egregious nature.  When will this lesson be learned - when the cemeteries are full of children whose lives were stolen when they had barely just begun?

Maybe They Should Let Him Stay in Mexico?

I always breathe a sigh of relief when I read a story that a child abducted is found:

RENO, Nev. (AP) - An 8-year-old girl was abducted by a convicted sex offender who took her to Mexico, where the two were found staying in a shelter, authorities said.

Officials in Mexico and the United States said the girl was sexually assaulted by Fernando Aguerro, who is accused of kidnapping her from her home near Reno on July 22.

The girl's mother, who was reunited with her daughter Saturday, said she had a romantic relationship with Aguerro.

Authorities found the sex offender and the young girl in a low-income Ensenada shelter, and the mother was flown to San Diego to be reunited with her daughter.

It was not immediately known when Aguerro may be extradited to the United States. He remains in the custody of Mexican authorities, who want to charge him with rape and kidnapping, NBC TV affiliates in Reno and San Diego reported.

If convicted in Mexico, Aguerro could serve up to 38 years in prison.

Aguerro - who was convicted in Los Angeles in the 1980s of lewdness with a child and served a year in prison - could receive life in prison without parole if convicted of kidnapping in the United States.

I have to say, perhaps we should leave the sicko in Mexico.  He was already a convicted sex offender walking the streets in the U.S.  Perhaps Mexico would actually *keep* him in prison.  Oh, and Mexican jails aren't known for their amenities either.  However, he could receive life in prison without parole if convicted of kidnapping here in the states.  I'm not convinced that's realistic, given the rash of sex offender cases that have popped up where a child (or children!) ends up dying because a sex offender, even with multiple instances of molestation, is still walking the streets.  It seems as though some in the judicial system are somewhat sympathetic to these criminals.  I'd almost rather bet my money on a 38 year sentence in Mexico.  By then, the guy would be elderly and hopefully out of commission if he didn't die in prison first.

The girl's mother said she did not know that Aguerro was a convicted sex offender until he and her daughter disappeared. "I'm glad everybody prayed" for the girl's safe return, she said.

So I went to the state of Nevada's Sex Offender Registry page, and of course this guy isn't listed.  But further looking at the definitions at the site, if they deem a convicted sex offender low risk, they won't even list them in the database.  I don't know if this particular criminal registered or not, but this certainly brings to light for me, yet again, the problems with the state-by-state registry system.  As long as we put the responsibility into the hands of the criminal we cannot rely on this system.  Additionally, protecting the criminal by choosing not to list them on the registry is dangerous.  If Aguerro actually is registered and considered "low risk" - which is entirely possible given his conviction was in the 80s - it proves to me this system is flawed.

The French Can Have Him!

LONDON (Reuters) - Film director Roman Polanski is due to appear in a London libel case via video link from Paris next week, setting a legal precedent and avoiding the risk of extradition to the United States for a child sex offence.

Polanski is being allowed to sue the British publishers of Vanity Fair magazine from a hotel room in Paris after England's highest court in February overturned an earlier ruling that would have forced him to come to London to fight his case.

I find it shameful that England's highest court reached a decision to protect Polanski from the justice that awaits him so he can seek resolution in the libel case he filed.  The scum is an admitted pedophile, pleading guilty to a charge of having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.  Following that pleading, he skipped bail and fled to France before sentencing.

Polanski, who won a best director Oscar for "The Pianist" in 2003, has never been back to the United States or Britain, and if he came to London he would face possible extradition to America. He cannot be extradited from his native France.

Polanski's lawyers say it will be the first time a libel claimant has given evidence at trial via video link.

"The idea, more than 25 years after Polanski left the United States, that he is still unable to return or even enter this country is extraordinary," said Joshua Rozenberg, legal editor at the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

No, Mr. Rozenberg, it's called the law and it is not extraordinary in the least.  Polanski acknowledged his guilt, and fled to avoid his punishment.  I think it is extraordinary that you think time - plus an Oscar and a few million dollars of wealth - erases his accountability.

The case has generated debate in Britain about whether Polanski should be allowed to use the country's legal system while avoiding the consequences of its laws.

Of course it has.  I'm sure the majority of Brits know that Polanski is nothing special and shouldn't be afforded the privileges of utilizing their legal system.  It probably also pisses off quite a few that their courts would stoop to the same level as the French and allow special accommodations for Polanski, while allowing him to avoid taking responsibility for his own criminal acts.

The arrogance of Polanski is unbearable - he blends right into that rotting cesspool called France.  Here is a man whose attorneys fought for him to get access to the judicial system from afar so *his* justice could be pursued all the while avoiding the consequences stemming from his own crimes.  Sickening, isn't it?

Face of Evil

An Angel Can Now Be Laid to Rest

Little 9-year-old Dylan Groene's remains were positively identified after being found in Montana last week.

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho  — The human remains found in Montana last week belong to kidnapped Idaho boy Dylan Groene, DNA testing has shown, according to Capt. Ben Wolfinger of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.

Wolfinger said in an e-mail that the FBI lab in Quantico, Va., had positively identified the remains.

"Out of respect for the Groene family and to maintain the integrity of the investigation and prosecution of this matter, there will be no further comment regarding these results," Wolfinger wrote in the e-mail, adding that investigators continue to follow-up on other leads.

Justice will come for Joseph Edward Duncan III whether here or when he meets his maker.  I pray that justice will be swift and fitting of the crimes commited here.  As far as a walk in the mind of this monster, visit Rusty's site here.  This bastard blogged his twisted thoughts - be warned, however, it is not easy reading knowing what this man has done.

Dylan was such an adorable young man, so full of life, and did not deserved to be plucked off this earth.  God bless and watch over Dylan's family so they can work through this tragedy the best they can.

Many Sex Offenders Not Where State Says

The following linked article is lengthy but worth the read!

The Montgomery address listed for Terrance Robert Green doesn't have a mailbox. It doesn't have a front door. In fact, there is no house. The convicted child rapist's address is nothing more than a concrete slab. Green is one of many sex offenders in Alabama who don't live at the addresses they have registered with state and local law enforcement, according to a check by The Birmingham News. A search for 127 sex offenders identified by the Alabama Department of Public Safety found that 48 - or 38 percent - aren't living at the registered addresses. Full Story

Does this really surprise anyone? It doesn't surprise me. That's why we, as everyday citizens, need to keep on top of this situation. It says right on my state's registry site that,

Due to time delays in processing sex offender data, this information should be verified with the appropriate Sheriff's Department or Chief of Police.

Call, write, email or take some kind of action to bring this to your community's law enforcement. I'm sure they are aware of it already, but we can keep reminding them and making some noise about it to get them to keep it updated. Now, of course, I realize it's not the law enforcement's fault these creeps LIE about where they are living but doesn't someone in authority have the right to check up on these "registered" sex offenders to make sure they are where they say they are? Another quote from the article:

"It's reflective of what's happening," Ahearn said. "We're expecting the most cunning of all criminals to follow what amounts to an honor system. It's not working."

Well, ain't that the truth? More:

It's also no surprise to Alabama Attorney General Troy King, who is meeting with law enforcement agencies across the state to discuss problems with the state's sex offender registration. "I think it gives a false sense of security and complacency in our state," King said. "People think the offenders ... are somewhat under law enforcement's eye. And that's really not the case."

Keep writing to your newspapers, local news talk radio hosts and the like. I've done it and will plan to keep doing it. Our little local newspaper, The Madison Record, still has NOT listed the 7 or 8 registered sex offenders living in our area as they said they were going to do. Yes, I've emailed them AGAIN about their promise. No response. Now I think it's time for a phone call. They will occasionally put in an article about registered sex offenders but they still have yet to actually list the pictures and details of each sex offender like the Mobile Registered did several weeks ago. But, don't give up, keep at it people. If we don't no one will. It's or responsibility and civic duty to stay ever vigilant regarding our children's safety. Don't you think?

What is your community doing about this problem? Do you know?

A Profile Of The Child Molester

Housewife is co-guest blogging for Merri Musings today. I cannot blog about this topic enough. It needs to be brought to the forefront of America. Please, take the time to read the following links. Please take the time today to do a search in your zip code to see how many registered sex offenders are living near you and your children. We have 8 registered sex offenders in my little town; not all of them are child molesters. I focus on the child molesters. About two weeks ago I downloaded their fliers from the internet database and mailed them off to the public parks and recreations department.  Granted, they are living within legal limits; but barely. In fact, during one MapQuest I found that one molester was living within legal limits but his backdoor led right out to one of our main ballparks; I mean the ballpark was his back yard! But on MapQuest; following directions from his physical address to the ballpark, yes he is living within the limit of the law; you know, if you follow the street directons provided by MapQuest.

A Profile Of The Child Molester

The majority of pedophiles prefer children on the brink of puberty and prey on a child's sexual ignorance and curiosity. To quote one molester, "Give me a kid who knows nothing about sex, and you've given me my next victim."

The actual number of members in these organizations is unknown, though one, the Rene Guyon Society, is listed in the Gale Encyclopedia of Associations as having five thousand members. Other major pedophile organizations include NAMBLA (The North American Man-Boy Love Association) and PAN (Pedophile Alert Network) in the Netherlands. Members receive monthly magazines and newsletters that include seduction techniques and advice on avoiding detection and prosecution. One groupÂąs "Lure of the Month" column gives advice on approaching and seducing children. In one monthÂąs column, soap crayons were praised for their effectiveness: "Children undress themselves!" In addition to attending pedophile conferences and conventions, some child molesters meet via the Internet where they may swap methods, success stories, even names, descriptions, and images of children. Customs officials indicate that the anonymous nature of Internet communication is quickly replacing the printed pedophile newsletter.

Now why oh why can we not do something about the above mentioned group? Anyone have any ideas on what to do about these sick, sick monsters? Well, I do but I'd go to prison for it. All I can say is teach your children about the realities and arm yourself with the facts and be ever vigilant. We are no longer living in a society where my children can ride their bikes around our little, teeny tiny neighborhood anymore. I remember when I was a kid I'd ride my bike for miles; probably wasn't a good idea back then either now that I reflect. I see and meet a lot of parents who are ignorant when it comes to child molesters; they are under the false security that because they live in a "nice" neighborhood that their children are safe. Go do a search. Also, I hate it when parents say, "well I just have to trust God that He has them in His Hands when I let them go out the door." This annoys me to no end. Yes, I know someone who has actually said that to me at one time. While it may be true in a sense; please I beg of you to tell your children the truth - that there are sickos out there ready to pounce on them and hurt them and kill them. Now, you know I'm not talking about telling a 5 year old this awful truth. I also know parents who let their children wonder the neighborhoods who should NOT be on their own because of their young age. When I see this I promptly escort the child home to their parent. Oh and don't even tell me that because they have a walkie-talkie with them that it makes it "OK" and they are safe. It's a bunch of crap.

The CHILD LURES COMMUNITY PLAN is a multi-media campaign guaranteed to raise awareness and - more importantly - prevent crimes against children by arming all segments of the community with personal safety strategies that work.

Search Your Area for a registered sex offender. It's listed by states and all you have to do is enter your zip code and sit back and be shocked to see who is living in YOUR neighborhood.

I had better shut up now or Merri will never ask me back again.

It's a Sick World

This is a sick story, and I'm so outraged I can hardly type:

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina News) - A Campobello teen is accused of raping one neighbor's dog and another neighbor's two little girls. Now the dog has died and charges against the teen have been upgraded.

I'm not putting the whole story here as I think there is a pretty graphic account of what this 17 year old, Cory Williamson, did physically to the dog (it's in the link above).

I'm outraged on two fronts.  First, of course it is awful what this boy did to the dog - I cannot fathom that this boy's mind is right.  It is readily apparent that he needs to be punished and according to the article he will be charged with the highest level of animal cruelty charges on the books.  Obviously the guy needs counseling, too.

The second reason I'm outraged is how much is played up on the abuse of the dog and how little is mentioned of the fact that this slime bag is also charged with sexually abusing two little girls in the same neighborhood.  I love animals - I have 3 dogs - but when does what happens to a dog outweigh what happened to two little girls?  He RAPED them!  I counted the references in the article.  There were 7 full paragraphs that referenced the situation about the dog and only 3-4 sentences that mention that he also raped two little girls in the neighborhood.  I have to ask...since when is a dog more important than the well-being of two little girls?!?!?

Molester May Have 36,000 Victims

Okay, now I'm pissed.  ...and sick to my stomach.  ...and generally just want to break stuff.  ...and probably cry a little.

Look into the face of a sick monster.  A monster who may have molested as many as 36,000 - all children and mostly boys.  He took meticulous notes of his sick and vile criminal acts.  I thank GOD they have him in custody.  These snippets really tick me off:

Schwartzmiller apparently did not register as a sex offender, so his history did not appear in the "Megan's Law" databases in California or other states, authorities said.

Although police said Schwartzmiller appears to have spent much of the past 30 years in California, he has been arrested on child molestation charges in New York, Arkansas and Washington. He also served prison time in Idaho for child molestation in the late 1970s, and is wanted in Oregon on sexual assault charges involving a minor.

In the 1980s, he lived in Brazil, and was extradited from there to Idaho again in the later part of the decade to serve more time, Cornfield said. Police believe he may have victims in Brazil and Mexico.

Authorities also arrested Schwartzmiller's roommate, another convicted child molester wanted for violating parole in Oregon. Fred Everts was charged with child molestation in San Jose.

Read the whole story here, if you can.  What a sick, vile, disgusting situation.

Grandpa Abuses Granddaughter - Grandma says "You Got What You Deserve!"

...and I thought Grandma and Grandpa were supposed to keep the grandkids safe and happy:

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) - A couple have been indicted on aggravated sexual assault charges after authorities alleged the man raped his 13-year-old granddaughter and then her grandmother told the girl she "got what she deserves."

Arthur Y. Pena, 58, and Lidia Pena, 54, were indicted June 6. Arthur Pena faces three counts of aggravated sexual assault. Lidia Pena is accused of allowing an assault April 10, according to court documents.

What kind of sick asshole would do this to his granddaughter?

"When the victim exited the bedroom, the (grandmother) laughed at her and told her she got what she deserves," Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputy Ron Sanders wrote in criminal complaint documents filed in state district court.

To me, the grandmother is as guilty as the sick bastard who abused her.

This poor girl, upon examination, showed evidence of chronic physical and sexual abuse.  She's thirteen years old and has had to grow up too fast - attempting to shelter herself from the very people who should love and protect her.  Dammit, it is so unfair for a child to be subjected to this horror.

And to make matters worse, the girl has 3 younger siblings, who also lived with the grandparents.  Thank God they are out of there - they may have been next.

Arthur Pena was in the Tom Green County Jail on $100,000 bail Monday. Lidia Pena was released after posting $100,000 bond. A separate arrest warrant has been issued since her indictment. She had not been arrested as of Monday.

Please find and arrest that evil woman so this girl and her siblings don't have to worry about her being out there, around the corner.

Not Guilty?

So they found Michael Jackson "not guilty" on all counts.  Am I surprised?  No.  Will you ever convince me he's innocent?  No.

I can't even write about this - I'll leave it up to others here and here and here.

Excuse me while I go puke now.

A Miracle Out of a Tragedy

In a world seemingly full of evil for our children, finding this 8-year-old girl alive is a blessing and a miracle:

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (AP) - An 8-year-old girl who was raped and buried alive under rocks and concrete blocks inside a trash bin told a friend that the last thing that she remembered before passing out was her attacker towering over her. But she said she awoke when she heard rescuers' voices, and wiggled her fingers to let them know she was there.

The girl was found seven hours after she was reported missing early Sunday.  She is now in good condition and reunited with family and friends.  Who did this to her?  A seventeen-year-old boy, now charged with attempted murder.

Police Sgt. Mike Hall found the girl after climbing into a 25-foot-long trash bin and opening the lid to a 30-gallon recycling container. Inside, he saw the girl's hand and foot peeking out amid heavy concrete slabs.

Rescuers feared the worst, but the mood turned jubilant when they saw the girl's fingers move and realized she was alive.

"There's no doubt in my mind that this child would have been dead if he didn't find her. She was dehydrated and in rough shape with pieces of cement blocks on top of her and she was face down," Sgt. Dan Boland said. "There was no way for her to get out on her own."

This little girl survived and had the courage to also describe her attacker, a teenage boy who had been staying at her home.

Authorities said Milagro Cunningham, 17, confessed and was charged with attempted murder, sexual battery on a child under 12, and false imprisonment of a victim under age 13, police said.

It sure is amazing what people will say about a person who just tried to leave an 8-year-old to die:

"He was a good person. He would clean and do chores, laugh and play jokes and stuff. We never thought he would do something like that," Holloman said. "The only reason I can think he went crazy like this is his father died and his mother didn't want him. Nobody wanted him."

Awww, poor child raper and attempted murderer - nobody wanted him so he buries an 8-year-old girl, after raping her, in the hopes she dies in a landfill.  Somehow, I don't feel sorry for him.

Authorities said the girl was found far enough from any homes that no one would probably have heard if she had cried out. The trash bin was in a fenced-off former landfill behind a park where she often played with friends.

Thank God she was found before she died.  I only pray that she can be strong and get over what has happened to her.  I know I say it time and time again, but there's something evil brewing in our society and something needs to be done.  We're always reading about something happening "somewhere else" and breathing the proverbial "sigh of relief."  But it happens in someone's back yard and next time it could be mine...or yours.

Update:  Carol at An American Housewife also has a post on this - please stop by her place!

Man Charged with Kidnap and Rape of Two Girls

Tammy at A Mom And Her Blog has posted a story about a man who is charged with the kidnap and rape of two young girls, ages seven and 13.

Erick Thomas Knapp Jr., 31, confessed to investigators that he bound, gagged and raped the girls, ages 13 and 7, sheriff's Capt. Michael Savage told the Charlotte Sun Herald for Sunday's editions. He said there may be more victims.

The very frightening part of this is that this sick, evil monster snatched these kids from their HOME - a place that families consider the safest place to be.

Tammy has it right - at least these girls are alive and had the bravery to come forward, even though this monster threatened to kill their families if they told anyone.

One more evil soul off the streets.  Thank God.  Now hopefully the judicial system will work and KEEP him off the street.
